Enlisted into Australian army July 20th 1915. Charles arrived as a veterinary’s assistant light horse in Egypt on 16th of April 1916 with the 4th Light Horse Regiment.
Due to manpower shortages in the European theatre of the war, he was reposted to the 30th Battalion arriving in France on the 30th September 1916.
Wounded in action on 27th September 1917.
Charles David King 32 years was killed in action South East of the Messines ridge following a raid on German trenches nearby. Charles is buried near the Messines Ridge in a small cemetery known as Bethlehem West Farm. He is the oldest of those soldiers interned there.
