Maurice was the eldest son of William and Catherine Hunt and was born on the 12th May 1923 at Charlton and passed away on  the 30th August 2007 at Birchip.

Maurice enlisted at Murtoa on the 23rd December 1941 and on  the 5th January 1942, Maurice boarded the train at Birchip Railway Station and went to Melbourne to Royal Park Army Camp. After 5 days there Maurice was allocated to the  20th Motor Regiment at Gherang, near Geelong. Maurice was posted to several other camps in Victoria, including Puckapunyal and then several camps in NSW & Qld.

Christmas 1944 was spent in New Guinea, based at Merauke and after 15 months Maurice returned to Australia on the 11th March 1945 and after serving 1375 days he was discharged on the 12th October 1945.

 

Maurice's Father, William Hunt, served in World War 1 and his Son, Francis Hunt, served in Vietnam.
